'Spursy' - Tottenham set new Premier League RECORD with Brighton collapse

Tottenham Hotspur have become the first club in Premier League history to lose 10 matches in the competition after leading by two or more goals.

Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered a crushing 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, despite leading 2-0 at half-time.

Brennan Johnson scored for the sixth consecutive game to put Tottenham 1-0 up in the 23rd minute, with the Wales international becoming the first Spurs player to score in six games on the bounce since Harry Kane in 2019.

James Maddison then doubled Tottenham’s lead after a Carlos Baleba clearance, but Brighton turned things around in the second-half.

Yankuba Minteh made it 2-1 in the 48th minute, before Georginio Rutter levelled the score with his second goal for the Seagulls.

The former Leeds United forward then set up Danny Welbeck, who nodded home to complete Brighton’s comeback.

In the process, Tottenham have become the first club to lose 10 Premier League matches after leading by two or more goals, as per Opta.

What has been said?

After the match, Postecoglou told Sky Sports: "Disappointing. Frustrated and absolutely gutted with that. Worst defeat since I've been here. Unacceptable second half. Nowhere near where we should be. We got carried away with how were were going.

"We kind of accepted our fate and it is hard to understand as we've not done that while I've been here. We paid the price.

"The problem is we are travelling along too smoothly, football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself."
