England star reveals he was 'desperate' to join Chelsea
England star Anthony Gordon has revealed how excited he is to finally work with Thomas Tuchel after previously being 'desperate' to link up with him at Chelsea.
The Newcastle winger has become one of the Premier League's standout performers since joining the Magpies for an eyebrow-raising €45.6 million in 2023. Subject of interest from Liverpool, the club he grew up supporting, in the summer, Gordon recently decided to sign a new long-term deal at St. James' Park.
His influence has not only grown domestically but also on the international stage. Gordon has been a regular fixture in England squads since his debut in March and he clocked 66 minutes against Greece on Thursday.

On January 1, interim Three Lions coach Lee Carsley will be replaced by former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel. Speaking to reporters, Gordon has now revealed how excited he is to play for the German - and he even lifted a transfer secret.
Gordon: 'I was desperate to join Chelsea'
The 23-year-old was quizzed about Tuchel's time at Stamford Bridge and reports that he came close to linking up with the German in the summer of 2022. "It was quite close, to be honest," Gordon admitted.
"I was desperate to go at the time and work with him, especially. I felt like my style would suit his style of play, the way he was playing at Chelsea which was very exciting for me. It was a big opportunity for me that didn't end up happening and I’m looking forward to getting to work with him a couple of years later."

Despite claims that it was Tuchel who snubbed Gordon after falling out with Todd Boehly, there are no hard feelings. "I spoke to him after the game [Everton vs Chelsea on opening day 2022/23] when I shook his hand," he said.
"He said some really complimentary things to me, which I’ll keep to myself. But, yeah, I spoke to him and I felt a lot of warmth from him, which then made me really want to play for him. I didn’t get that chance."
