Fabrizio Romano transfer news: Barcelona PLANS, Son BOMBSHELL, Zubimendi TWIST
Fabrizio Romano has dropped the latest football transfer news, with updates at Barcelona, Tottenham, Liverpool and others leading the headlines.
Barcelona plot Nico Williams plan
Romano has confirmed that Barcelona are looking ahead to summer 2025 with regards a major signing, with Ansu Fati’s injury apparently the last straw for the Camp No club.
“There’s been bad news today for Barcelona with Ansu Fati one month out. He’ll return in December,” Romano told his YouTube channel “This means for Barca, to bring in a new winger.
“You’ll remember they were dreaming of Nico Williams, but the deal was never done. In the final days of August there was also Rafael Leao, who remains a player super appreciated by Barcelona. Both Nico Williams and Leao remain in the dreams of Barcelona for 2025, more likely to be summer rather than winter. This remains their plan.
“Ansu Fati is having too many physical problems, even when he’s playing, he’s not making the impact they’re looking for.
“They know the situation with Leao and Williams next summer could be different. In August, it was impossible for Barcelona to sign Leao.”
New Pedri and Gavi deals
The Blaugrana will also concentrate on having two rising stars sign new deals, Romano said.
“In Barcelona, there’s been many movements. Deco has confirmed how important it is to extend contracts. They want to make sure everything is in place – Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal, who turn 18 in 2025, they’ve already prepared long contracts for them, Marc Bernal extended his contract,” he explained.
“The next move is going to be Pedri and Gavi. Deco has confirmed in public that they will extend these contracts.
“This is what’s going to happen because Pedri’s very happy at Barcelona, with Hansi Flick. Barcelona spoke to him in June and said that after the transfer window we’ll extend your contract. The contracts are ongoing.
“For Gavi, they were waiting for him to return on the pitch. In terms of time, it’s probably going to take some time, because they still need to fix some details. Barcelona will give a higher salary and a higher release clause, so there’s all these details to discuss.”
Son contract extension
Good news coming out of Romano’s HQ for Tottenham fans, who can look forward to at least another year of having Son Heung-min.
“It's important to say that according to my information, Tottenham are prepared to extend the contract of Son,” Romano said.
“If you check on the websites, you can see that his contract is expiring in summer 2025, but Tottenham have an option to extend the deal by one more season and they’re in the process, from what I’m hearing, to do that. The process has already started.
“The expectation is that Son will have a longer contract at Tottenham – one more season at the club.
“I’m not away of any other contacts with top clubs. Son is aware of Tottenham’s plan.”
Liverpool, Arsenal monitoring Zubimendi
According to Romano, there are three managers keeping a close eye on Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad – a player who was much-coveted in the summer transfer market.
“Real Sociedad director Roberto Olabe left the club. He did a fantastic job when you think about all the top players at the club, including Martin Zubimendi. Last summer, Liverpool were very aggressive on that one. It was close to making it happen but the player decided against moving,” Romano said.
“Liverpool, on a constant basis, are still monitoring Zubimendi. It’s also true that there are two managers who are big fans of Zubimendi. Apart from Arne Slot – Liverpool keep monitoring the player. Mikel Arteta appreciates Zubimendi. He follows Spanish football and he’s a player he likes. And also Xabi Alonso. If he became the Bayern Munich coach, one of the signings he wanted was Zubimendi.”
Jonathan David contract latest
One of the hottest players out of contract next summer will be Lille striker Jonathan David, who is set to attract interest from many top clubs after previously being linked with Arsenal.
“Jonathan David is not signing a new deal Lille and is not expected to sign a new deal in the next weeks or months,” Romano confirmed.
“Jonathan David will be one of the big names in 2025. I can guarantee you that clubs from the Premier League, Serie A, everywhere are reaching out to understand his situation. He’s a big opportunity. He’s scoring lots of goals in the Champions League, always been a crucial player for Lille.
“The player is taking his time – the situation is super positive for him. It’s not something that will happen now in November, it’s probably going to be in the next months.”
