Game over for Man Utd and Chelsea? David reveals Barcelona dream

Lille striker Jonathan David has revealed that it is his dream to play for Barcelona.

The Canada international will be the most in-demand free agent in 2025. A prolific scorer since his time at Gent, the Lille sharpshooter has been in red-hot form this season, netting against the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old has been associated with a transfer to one of Europe's elite clubs for years, but 2025 will finally be the time for him to make the jump to the next level. David is out of contract and there is no chance of him extending his stay in Northern France.

In recent months, the striker has been linked with every club under the sun. From Barcelona to Real Madrid in Spain, Bayern Munich in Germany, Juventus in Italy and Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd in England, the Canadian has no shortage of suitors.

David wants Barca

At this point, it is not clear where David will end up, though Italian media has insisted over the past few weeks that Juventus are the favourites to secure his signature as things stand.

However, David's latest comments cast doubt on these claims. Speaking to The Athletic, the sharpshooter has revealed that he dreams of playing for Barcelona.

“Barcelona was always the team I grew up supporting. When you grow up supporting a team, it’s your dream to play for them," he said, clearly giving the Blaugrana an edge over his other suitors.

However, the Catalans will have to show patience until the summer as David all but ruled out a January exit from Lille. “Going to a club midseason is never easy," he stated.

“It’s not like the beginning of a season where you have a pre-season, you get to know your team-mates, you have time to gel. In January, things are very hectic. It’s about right now. It’s tougher.”
