Amorim eyes free agent as first Man Utd signing
Ruben Amorim will begin his first day as Manchester United boss tomorrow and he already has his eyes on new recruits.
The head coach-elect is reportedly hopeful of clinching Juventus defender Danilo, according to reports in Italy.
The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag last week after a torrid start to the 2024/24 season and they were quick to appoint Sporting CP boss Amorim in his place.
CONFIRMED: Viktor Gyokeres’ perfect transfer move
The Portuguese coach will be given time to set out his stall and refresh things at United. There is no doubt that a number of players will be allowed to leave and he will have ambitions to bring in his own sort of players.
JuveLive have reported that Danilo is one of the players who is on Amorim's wish list. The outlet revealed that: "The deal, as anticipated in the first paragraph, could materialize in January: for the Brazilian defender it would be a return to Manchester after his experience, from 2017 to 2019, at Manchester City, with a record of 4 goals in 34 appearances."
The 33-year-old is out of contract in the summer but there is a clause in his deal that would see an additional year added on if certain performance-based criteria are met.
Amorim on transfers
Amorim has already ruled out signing any players from Sporting CP in the January transfer window at least.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of his final game in charge of Sporting, he said that he would not buy anyone from his former club in the winter window but did leave the door open for a move in the summer.
