Dutch legend BLASTS Ten Hag: 'Football not worth watching'

Erik ten Hag is out of work after his dismissal from Manchester United and the name of the 54-year-old coach has already been linked with the Dutch national team.

However, according to Eredivisie coaching legend Aad de Mos, the KNVB, the Dutch federation, should not consider this. The former manager believes that Ten Hag did not show enough at Man Utd to warrant potentially succeeding Ronald Koeman given that there are better options.

It is not yet clear where Ten Hag's future lies. Despite the fact that he was only recently fired, he was already mentioned as an option for AS Roma and Borussia Dortmund. The former club eventually chose Claudio Ranieri, while Nuri Sahin is still at the helm in Germany.

Naturally, due to Ten Hag's track record in the Netherlands, he has also been suggested as a (future) national coach for Oranje. However, not everybody is convinced that this would be a good choice.

Ten Hag slammed

Two-time Eredivisie champion De Mos believes that Ten Hag is not suitable for the position of national coach of the Netherlands. "I think that with Koeman we have a coach who is doing reasonably well," the 77-year-old told Soccernews.

"Ten Hag has not built up so much credit that he should now be considered for the position of national coach. Ten Hag showed almost nothing at Man Utd!

"He could have bought players for €600 million, but he made many wrong choices. You should never bring so many Dutch players and players from your old employer to your club.

"The Eredivisie is of course a different level than the Premier League. He made himself vulnerable by only using this old network."

De Mos was also not impressed by the football Ten Hag played at Man Utd. "The football was not worth watching. He was 14th in the league and could not beat FC Twente in Europe," he thundered.

The former Ajax boss believes that there are better options out there. "I think that you should rather end up with Arne Slot in terms of national coach.

"Slot does not even have to be fired for that, but as a possible double role. [Michael] Reiziger is also doing fantastic [with the Dutch U21s]. You can also move him to the big Oranje."
