Manchester United want to add a 'mobile creative player' to the midfield and are wiling to sacrifice Casemiro in the process, according to a report.

The Brazilian veteran turns 33 in February and has shown his vulnerability over the past 12 months. Casemiro endured a dire campaign in 2023/24 and was guilty of a horror performance against Liverpool earlier in the season.

To be sure, the former Real Madrid superstar has bounced back since that outing against the Reds, putting in more respectable displays when called upon recently, but there is an acknowledgement that it is time to move on.

At least that is according to The Athletic, which reports that Man Utd are likely to once again explore the potential exit of the Brazil international in 2025, as they already did in the summer.

At the time, Galatasaray expressed an interest in loaning Casemiro, but the player rejected the offer. FootballTransfers exclusively revealed early on in the summer that the Brazilian was determined to stay and prove his detractors wrong.

Man Utd axe Casemiro

However, the above-mentioned report states that Man Utd are ready to get rid of Casemiro now that Ruben Amorim is in charge. The midfielder is believed to be the club's biggest earner - by quite some distance - and his performances just don't justify his wage anymore.

It is well known that Man Utd are determined to add at least two midfielders in 2025, with Christian Eriksen expected to follow Casemiro on the way out. Amorim, it is claimed, wants to bring in a more 'mobile creative player' to operate in one of the deeper midfield roles.

Specific names are not mentioned in the report, and it is also not clear what this transfer plan means for Kobbie Mainoo, who could potentially fill the role in question.

Presumably, Amorim views his former Sporting CP protégé Manuel Ugarte as a shoo-in for one of the two midfield positions, leaving Mainoo to compete for a spot in the team with the new arrival.
