Man Utd 'firmly' wanted Amorim favourite even before his appointment
Manchester United were keen on Geovany Quenda even before Ruben Amorim's appointment, according to a report.
The Sporting CP youngster has enjoyed a meteoric rise this season, becoming a regular in the side of the Portuguese champions under Amorim prior to his move to Man Utd.
Since the 39-year-old swapped Lisbon for Manchester, speculation surrounding which players he could bring along has been rampant and the name of Quenda has been frequently mentioned.

A thrilling winger who has already been part of senior Portugual squads despite his tender age of 17, Quenda has attracted the attention not only of Man Utd but of many top European sides.
However, the presence of Amorim appears to give the Red Devils a key advantage, though it remains to be seen how realistic a 2025 transfer is given his €100 million release clause.
Man Utd have been keen for months
As pointed out by The Telegraph, Man Utd's interest in Quenda preceded Amorim's arrival. Though he has really burst onto the scene this season, the 17-year-old has been highly rated for some time.
Indeed, at the start of the year, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez waxed lyrical about Quenda at a time when he was still mostly playing for Sporting's reserves.

Man Utd's scouts already took a liking to the Portuguese last season and view him as being on a similar level to Leny Yoro in terms of potential for the future.
A forward by trade, Quenda has impressed in a wing-back role under Amorim, which could make him particularly interesting to Man Utd as they seek to rebuild their squad to better suit the head coach's 3-4-3 system.
Amorim, it is claimed, certainly wouldn't be averse to working with the teenager at Old Trafford.
