Zubimendi ‘counting down the hours’ for Premier League move as Sociedad left ‘POWERLESS’
The war between Arsenal and Liverpool to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is set to step up in the coming weeks, with the two Premier League giants having effectively been given a green light to chase the Spain star.
Zubimendi was previously a target for both clubs in the summer, yet the 25-year-old chose to stay loyal to Sociedad amidst this high-profile interest.
La Real pleaded with the player to stay and ultimately won thanks to the emotional pull the club has on the player, who was born in San Sebastian.
But a poor start to the season has led Zubimendi to regret his decision.
Although Liverpool were spurned by him in the summer, they are set to make a move in January and could be challenged by Arsenal, who have already signed Mikel Merino from Sociedad in 2024.
TodoFichajes has outlined the situation that the Spaniards find themselves in, stating that they feel their hands are tied with regards a deal.
“Real Sociedad know that there is nothing they can do and they are aware that either halfway through the season or at the end of the current campaign, Zubimendi has decided to leave Anoeta. He already regretted not leaving in August and is now counting the weeks until he makes the jump to the Premier League,” it states.
How much is Zubimendi worth?
Real Sociedad hope to attract bids of around €60 million for Zubimendi, who played a vital role for Spain in the final of Euro 2024 as he replaced the injured Rodri.
He is the last ace La Real hold, having seen the likes of Alexander Isak and Merino depart the club in recent seasons.
Zubimendi’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV), however, stands at only €32.4m and it would be surprising if either Arsenal or Liverpool were tempted to match Real Sociedad’s asking price at the midway point of the season.
