Christian Falk has confirmed that the Anfield club are hot on the trail of the attack-minded wing-back, who they are targeting for a bargain price in the summer of 2025.

Frimpong would be a logical replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose future remains very much up in the air given that he is out of contract in June and is being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Taking to X, Falk confirmed: “Liverpool have Jeremie Frimpong on their list.

“The right-back of Bayer Leverkusen has a release clause of €40m in his contract.

“Arne Slot’s next major signing is clear after Liverpool invite agent to Anfield.”

Speaking to Caught Offside, the Bild journalist added: “Liverpool’s interest in Jeremie Frimpong has been confirmed again.

“I heard that his agent, Dirk Hebel, was invited by Liverpool for the match against Bayer Leverkusen. He was in the director’s box. So, you see the club and the player’s entourage are talking.”

Frimpong a worthy successor to Trent

Liverpool have become renowned for their use of attacking full-backs in recent seasons, with Andrew Robertson and Alexander-Arnold fitting perfectly into the system that Jurgen Klopp moulded at Anfield.

Under Slot, the pair are still a major feature of the Reds’ play, yet there is a sense that they are seeking to evolve in this area and Frimpong fits this mould perfectly.

Across all competitions this season, he has two goals and seven assists, though he struggled to make an impression as Liverpool beat Leverkusen 4-0 in the Champions League in November.

Data analytics firm SciSports rates Frimpong among the best full-backs in the Bundesliga this season, pointing out that although he is considered an offensive monster, he also rates excellently in terms of his defensive positioning and his ability to force transitions, something that Slot will surely appreciate.
