Trent Alexander-Arnold has long been a transfer target for Real Madrid and with the January transfer window approaching and his contract expiring in six months, Los Blancos are stepping up their media campaign.

According to TEAMtalk this has apparently angered Liverpool so much that they are now plotting a revenge raid on two Real Madrid transfer targets this summer themselves.

As well as Alexander-Arnold, Real Madrid have long been linked with a move for Bayern Munich's Canadian superstar Alphonso Davies.

Davies, a left-back, would add pace and thrust to the left side of Real Madrid's defence and Liverpool would like to tempt the Bayern man to bring those same attributes to Anfield.

With Andrew Robertson on a clear decline and Kostas Tsimikas a constant injury concern, signing a premiere talent like Davies would both help Liverpool and hurt Real Madrid.

TEAMtalk also report that the Reds are looking to make Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong their replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right.

Frimpong was also Real Madrid's alternative to Alexander-Arnold, with the potential that they might sign him as well as the Englishman due to the Dutchman's ability to play further forward as an orthodox winger.

Zubimendi: the next Madrid-Liverpool battle?

Liverpool and Real Madrid, who have contested two Champions League finals since 2018, are apparently set to do battle over yet another player this coming summer.

In addition to the full-back skirmishes, Liverpool and Real Madrid are both eyeing up a move for Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi.

The defensive midfielder has already rebuffed Liverpool in the summer of 2024, as well as Barcelona the summer before that, but AS are reporting that Real Madrid see the Basque midfielder as an ideal heir for Toni Kroos' role in midfield.

Meanwhile Liverpool still hold interest in Zubimendi and if he becomes open to leaving his boyhood club, no doubt the Reds would try and tempt him to come to Merseyside.
