The Reds have enjoyed a brilliant first campaign to date under new boss Arne Slot, but three contract matters have loomed over the club like a dark cloud.

Star players Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all set to be free agents in the summer and so far none of them appear to be close to officially extending their stay despite having been offered fresh terms.

The most persistent rumour has swirled around vice-captain Alexander-Arnold as Real Madrid are known admirers of him and determined to pounce on his contract situation in January when he will be free to negotiate with them.

So far, Alexander-Arnold has given priority to the talks with Liverpool, but it seems that he has already made a final decision.

Alexander-Arnold wants Real Madrid

According to MARCA, Alexander-Arnold has informed Liverpool's club chiefs that he intends to link up with Real Madrid in 2025. The Spanish outlet claims that the defender expressed his desire during the Anfield side's latest attempt to persuade him to stay.

It is asserted that an extension is becoming increasingly unlikely, and indeed impossible, due to the England international essentially having made up his made.

Alexander-Arnold's close relationship with Jude Bellingham is being described as one of the key factors in his decision, as the Real Madrid superstar has informed his Three Lions teammate of what it's like to suit up for Los Blancos.

The 26-year-old, it is claimed, has been 'seduced' by the idea of joining Real Madrid and is not expected to remain with his boyhood club beyond the current season.

The Spanish giants are calm about the situation and won't force the issue in January. They have been through this process before with David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and, of course, Kylian Mbappe.
