'The Diallo Derby!' - Winners and Losers as Man Utd beat Man City

Man Utd have beaten Man City in the last minute at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's Man City were leading an uneventful Manchester derby for the vast majority of the game.

They scored in the 36th minute, but failed to build on their last and two goals in the last seven minutes of the match gave Man Utd a dramatic victory.

Who were the winners and losers of Sunday's incredible action in Manchester? FootballTransfers takes a look...

Winner: Amad Diallo

There can be no bigger winger than Amad Diallo. He was literally the match-winner with his late goal, but even before that he was the man whose energy and effort won the penalty that led to Man Utd's equaliser.

But even before that, almost everything good that Man Utd did in the game was going through Amad Diallo. Not for nothing that Peter Drury called it "The Diallo Derby."

"The only Manchester United player to look like a Manchester United player," said Gary Neville during commentary, and in many ways he was absolutely correct.

Whenever anyone else had possession, they were looking for Amad, and justifiably so as the young Ivorian tortured every City player when he had the ball.

His late winner wasn't just a tap-in, either. It was a masterpiece of technique and control. A wonderful penetrative run was followed by a beautiful touch to flip it over the goalkeeper and a wonderfully-timed volley into the net.

"When he's like this," said team-mate Bruno Fernandes after the game, "he's unstoppable."

Hard to argue with that.

Loser: Matheus Nunes

It's rare you see a Premier League player make two colossal mistakes within the span of 10 seconds, but Matheus Nunes did just that at the end of the Manchester derby.

With City winning 1-0, the ball ends up at his feet after an awful bit of decision-making from Kyle Walker, encouraging the United press.

Nunes wasn't under that much pressure, but clearly panicked and fired a ball back to the goalkeeper Ederson. Except he under-hit it and Amad Diallo pounced.

However, a combination of Ederson's speed off his line and Amad Diallo's lack of conviction to shoot as soon as he rounded the Brazilian saw him stalled.

Sensing his chance to redeem himself, Matheus Nunes came charging back at Amad. Except he was completely out of control and instead of winning the ball back he just smashed into the Man Utd winger and conceded a penalty.

Oh dear.

Winner: Bruno Fernandes

Man Utd's captain Bruno Fernandes was their talisman for years alongside Marcus Rashford, but while the striker has crashed out lately, Fernandes has continued to keep on churning out quality, hard-working performances.

And of course, he's always had match-winning potential.

Though it didn't look like it when he chipped the ball wide after being put through by Rasmus Hojlund. It was a monumental miss from the captain, but he held his nerve when his chance came later with the penalty and drew Man Utd level.

Loser: Pep Guardiola

When asked if Matheus Nunes' error was a massive factor, Bernardo Silva's comment was telling: "It's not one game, it's a lot of games lately."

"When it happens in 10 games it's about us collectively," he added.

Pep Guardiola is arguably the greatest manager of all-time, certainly among the top three, but Man City look absolutely finished and he doesn't seem to have any ability to arrest their staggering and steep decline.

Since the start of November, they have just got 0.57 points-per-game in the Premier League. That's the lowest among all clubs in the division. It's literally relegation form.

They've won just one game in the last 11. One in eleven! It's honestly preposterous how bad they have been lately and it has to fall on Guardiola.

What can he do to change things? It looks like he needs players, but do Man City have the funds to get them? And can they avoid losing any more games until those signings arrive? January is a long way away in English football!

"I am not good enough," he said in the post-match press conference.

It sounds blasphemous to suggest but, is he... right?

Winner: Ruben Amorim

What a massive turnaround this match was for Ruben Amorim. Their performance was impressive regardless of the result, but the thing is results can so often define how a coach and his team are perceived.

Turning the result around and avoiding three straight Premier League defeats was huge. Getting a massive win in a derby against your local rivals even bigger.

"It's just three points," said Amorim after the game. "We have a lot to do, but it was massive for our fans."

But Ruben Amorim keeping his feet on the ground? Colossal.

As big as this derby win was, as much as it will galvanise and increase faith in Ruben Amorim's system (and probably motivate the likes of squad outcasts Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho), it was ultimately just one win and would mean nothing if Man Utd go and lose to Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

Wins need to come in numbers, not just one at a time.

The trick is to keep on going.

Loser: All of us

The last loser is honestly all of the fans, because despite the dramatic ending, that was a terrible game of football. Man Utd didn't play well, Man City were even worse.

It was just an eyesore whenever anyone not named Amad Diallo was on the ball. Just painful to watch for both teams.

And while Man Utd get to bask in the glow and momentum of victory, we as viewers do not. All we have is the terrible game of football we just watched.
