Man Utd are looking to sign a Premier League star to fix a notorious problem position.

Ruben Amorim's men are weighing up a move for Fulham's American international Antonee Robinson in a bid to solve their long-standing `left-back problems.

GIVEMESPORT are reporting Man Utd's interest in the full-back has become more concrete because he is now playing wing-back at Fulham, which is the role he would play under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

The USMNT star has three years left on his deal at Craven Cottage, but he is rated at around £40m, a fee well within the reach of a club like Man Utd, especially if they are able to sell some of their less-wanted squad players.

Robinson has been flying for Fulham this season, with 7 assists already in the Premier League this season he finds himself third in the division for assists.

Only the ridiculous Mohamed Salah (with 13 assists) and Bukayo Saka (with 10) have more assists than the Fulham full-back, which is a testament to his quality that he can outpace every other creator in the league.

Man Utd are of course in desperate need of the kind of creativity that Robinson would provide. While they have Amad Diallo on 6 assists and Bruno Fernandes on 5, those are literally their only two players who have more than a single assist this season.

The importance of Amorim's wing-back

It may seem strange to place such importance on wing-backs, but Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system means that the role is essential both for attacking and defensive width.

With the rest of the team playing narrow, if the wing-backs cannot be effective in wide zones then it drags others out there, which vacates the middle which is the danger zone where you want your most dangerous players.

Man Utd have repeatedly run into this problem whenever it's been Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot out wide, because neither man is a wing-back with the necessary ball-carrying and pace to really threaten opponents on their own.

Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo would be better choices to play wing-backs, but neither has the defensive ability to get back and cover should they have to.
