10 Premier League players who could move in January

The 2024 January window was one of the quietest in recent memory.

Due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in the Premier League, England's biggest clubs refrained from splashing the cash and most of them did not even complete one incoming transfer.

The 2025 January window could prove to be a different beast, however. While some sides, like Man Utd, still have to be wary of falling foul of PSR, it is shaping up to be a market with a little bit more major movement.

Jakub Kiwior (Arsenal)

Jakub Kiwior is struggling for minutes at Arsenal and seemingly on the way out. Mainly an injury replacement at this point, the Pole has barely featured under Mikel Arteta this term.

The former Spezia man has admirers in Italy and Napoli, in particular, have been persistently linked with the versatile defender as they seek to bolster their backline.

Ben Chilwell (Chelsea)

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell failed to seal a transfer in the summer and was punished for it by spending most of the first half of the season away from the pitch.

It is expected that Chilwell will have offers in January and clubs, aware of his situation, will look to get a cut-price deal for the former England international.

Tyler Morton (Liverpool)

Tyler Morton had offers from England and Germany in the summer off the back of an impressive loan with Hull City, but Liverpool decided to keep the defensive midfielder around.

From a personal point of view, it was a terrible decision as Morton has barely featured for the Reds this season, showing himself unable to dislodge the brilliant Ryan Gravenberch. A January exit looks likely.

Christian Eriksen (Man Utd)

Christian Eriksen is out of contract at the end of the season and there are no indications that Man Utd will look to extend the veteran's deal. Eriksen himself has admitted that he is likely to leave the club in 2025.

While a summer exit is all but guaranteed, Eriksen could already receive interest in January and Man Utd would be happy to take a fee, no matter how small, for the midfielder.

Carney Chukwuemeka (Chelsea)

Like Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka failed to find a new club in the summer and has mostly been on the outside looking in since. The young midfielder has barely even managed to get minutes as part of Chelsea's 'B Team.'

Enzo Maresca has already confirmed that the England youth international is likely to seek a way out in January, and he is thought to have no shortage of suitors in England and Italy, though the Blues are said to be demanding that clubs pay his massive €48 million release clause.

Lucas Paqueta (West Ham)

Lucas Paqueta is awaiting the outcome of his very serious betting charges for which he continues to deny any wrongdoing. The case is likely to drag on well into 2025 and could have serious consequences for his career if found guilty.

There have been reports that Paqueta could seek to return to Brazil in January in hopes of potentially saving his career in his home country.

James McAtee (Man City)

James McAtee returned to Man City after an encouraging loan spell at Sheffield United, and he also impressed Pep Guardiola in-preseason. However, that has not meant that the young midfielder has been afforded many chances to show off his talents.

Far from it, McAtee has struggled for minutes and looks set to be the next promising prospect to leave Man City. McAtee is believed to have a host of suitors in the Premier League.

Miguel Almiron (Newcastle)

Every transfer window, Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron is linked with a return to Major League Soccer and 2025 is no different, with the former Atalanta United star once again said to be on the verge of heading back stateside.

Charlotte FC are reportedly in talks with the Paraguay international and it would seemingly take quite a lot for the deal to fall through again as it did in the summer window.

Evan Ferguson (Brighton)

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson has struggled for minutes under Fabian Hurzeler after overcoming a lengthy injury problem. The Republic of Ireland youngster is looking to recapture his promising 2022/23 form but is facing an uphill battle to regularly get on the pitch.

It has therefore been reported that Brighton could allow him to leave the club in January, albeit preferably only on loan. Hurzeler has claimed that this is not true but it is difficult to see how Ferguson could be content with his current situation.

Marcus Rashford (Man Utd)

Marcus Rashford made waves when he admitted that he was ready for a 'new challenge,' although his comments didn't come as a huge surprise. The England international has struggled to live up to expectations at Man Utd for some time now.

With the club keen to raise money, getting Rashford off the books would go a long, long way towards giving the club the necessary funds to make signings for new boss Ruben Amorim.

A permanent transfer may prove difficult to pull off, but there have been suggestions that Rashford could leave Man Utd on loan.
