Five players who could join Tottenham in January
It's been an extremely mixed season for Tottenham in the 2024/24 campaign.
In the summer window, they brought in five major signings - with four of those were 19 years old or under.
Their other purchase was Dominic Solanke, who joined from Bournemouth for a club-record €64.3 million. The forward has not quite lived up to the price tag just yet, however, but there have been some positive signs.
Ahead of the winter window, Ange Postecoglou said: “January is a tricky one. I wouldn’t expect us to do too many significant things in January but if January 1st, we’re in exactly the same position we are now with nine players out, I reckon we’d be doing something.
With that said, here are five players that Spurs could make a move for in the January transfer window.
Patrick Dorgu
Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu can play both as a left-back on the wing. Now a fully-fledged Denmark international and becoming an increasingly key player for his club. He's developed his game - having started as a left-back, he now primarily plays on the right wing and is improving his offensive week-on-week.
The 20-year-old has been linked to several Premier League clubs this year, following his impressive displays in Italy. It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Spurs are very keen on the youngster, but so are Chelsea, Napoli and Juventus.
Davide Frattesi
Tottenham are reportedly linked with another Serie A player as they eye a move for Inter Milan’s midfielder, Davide Frattesi. According to Spazio Inter, North London outfit are ready to make a €35m bid in January.
Frattesi earned his first Azzurri call-up at the end of an impressive maiden top-flight campaign. This was after spells in Serie B with Ascoli, Empoli and Monza – the latter two of whom he helped to promotion.
Abdukodir Khusanov
Tottenham could make a move for Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov, too.
Signed from Energetik-BGU Minsk in 2023 for just €100,000, the Uzbekistan defender is considered to be one of the top young centre-backs in France.
Spurs have centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but when either are out or suspended, they struggle.
Khusanov is liked by the Lilywhites, The Telegraph reported, while he has won praise from his Lens team-mates.
“He really scares me - I avoid going into duels with him!” France goalkeeper Brice Samba claimed in L'Equipe.
Matte Smets
Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing the KRC Genk defender Matte Smets.
Another 20-year-old central defender, TBR Football claim that Spurs on in the hunt for the youngster, who has caught the eye of Chelsea, too.
It's thought that the Premier League sides sent scouts to watch the player in action and they came away impressed with how he performed.
Tijjani Reijnders
AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is another name that has come increasingly linked to Spurs. The Dutchman is on a spectacular run of form at the moment. While many Milan players have been slow to grasp the ideas of new coach Paulo Fonseca, Reijnders has had no such difficulties, being one of the gems of the side.
If Spurs needed some experience and versatility in the centre of the park, they should really look no further.
