Arsenal Transfer News Today: Romano ANNOUNCES deal, Lewis-Skelly CONTRACT, Arteta’s Isak BOMB
FootballTransfers runs through all the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Kieran Tierney, Alexander Isak and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Fabrizio Romano on Arsenal’s first January deal
Fabrizio Romano says that the first confirmed transfer for Arsenal in January could be Kieran Tierney signing a deal with Scottish Premiership side Celtic.
The Hoops are in talks with the Scotland left-back, who came through the ranks at the Parkhead club before leaving in 2019 to join Arsenal in a €27 million deal.
Having fallen out of the picture with the Gunners, Tierney is set to move back to his homeland, with Romano confirming the rumours.
“Negotiations underway for Kieran Tierney to return to Celtic from Arsenal, discussions are taking place,” he tweeted.
“27-year-old full-back keen on the move, talks continue to reach full agreement.”
Out of contract in June, Tierney would likely return to Celtic on a free transfer in the summer rather than an immediate deal.
Lewis-Skelly to sign five-year deal
Myles Lewis-Skelly is set to commit his long-term future to Arsenal by signing a five-year contract with the club, FootballTransfers has exclusively revealed.
Everything is in place for the talented youngster to sign on until 2030 alongside Ethan Nwaneri when he turns 18.
The deals will be finalised in March, with the Gunners seeking to tie down two of the brightest young talents in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.
Arteta’s striker bomb
Mikel Arteta has said that Arsenal do not need to sign a striker if they are to win the Premier League this season.
Speculation has been rife that Arteta will chase a No.9 during the January transfer window in a bid to provide Kai Havertz with support.
“Signing somebody is not enough, that's for sure because that signing then has to score how many goals?” Arteta told the media as he was questioned about the prospect of signing a striker as rumours build that he wants Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
“A lot of things have to happen. Sign and then I score 20 goals from here until the end and then you have a better chance? Maybe, yes. I don't know!
“But I'm very happy with the players that we have. If you look at the amount of goals that we scored as well, it’s more than enough to win a Premier League, and our other numbers as well.
“But the reality is if somebody is doing more, that’s life so we have to be better. That [January] market is much more limited than the one in the summer, but I don’t know. People’s expectations and dreams are something good.”
But Arteta’s words are unlikely to halt speculation.
Newcastle snipe back over Isak links
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe reacted in a frustrated manner after it was claimed by Arsenal legend Paul Merson that the Gunners need to break the bank to sign Sweden striker Alexander Isak this month.
“It's the first I have heard so I need to see the comments. But our players are loved by us and wanted by us,” he told the press.
“We have massive games to come and we need them to perform. Their focus can only be on what they are delivering in the here and now, we can only control on what we can control.”
The Telegraph reports Newcastle value Isak at more than £150 million, meaning that Arsenal would need to shatter their transfer record to do a deal.
Olmo calm amid Barcelona crisis
Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo could become a free agent if the Blaugrana’s attempts to re-register him with LaLiga fail.
Arsenal are one of the teams tracking the former RB Leipzig player, but his agent Andy Bara has played down the possibility of any immediate deal.
“It’s a stressful situation for Dani as it would be for any other player. But he’s a great player and person, he’s trying to be calm,” he told GiveMeSport.
“Of course, Dani is a winner and he loves to play the games, not to watch them. We are not negotiating with any club.
“Dani is a Barcelona player and he wants to be a Barcelona player. He has made a big effort in his life to be at Barcelona. It was his desire for a long time. Barcelona is the first and last option. Dani, his father, family, me, we’re not thinking about other options.”
Failure of Barcelona to nail down Olmo could be catastrophic for the Camp Nou side, who are staring down the barrel of a staggering €168 million loss on the player.
Kolo Muani latest
Arsenal have cooled their interest in PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani, according to David Ornstein. Although the France international was previously considered a player of interest for the Gunners, there is no indication that the Emirates club will make a January move for him.
Kolo Muani has reportedly been offered to several Premier League clubs following his relegation to a bit-part role at PSG, where head coach Luis Enrique has apparently little intention of giving him regular game time.
