Chelsea continue to SMASH transfer records with Keira Walsh deal
Chelsea Women are set to complete a Deadline Day move for Barcelona and England midfielder Keira Walsh that sees the Blues continuing to spend at an unprecedented rate on their team.
Chelsea previously hit the headlines during this window when they set a new world record in the women’s game by signing Naomi Girma. This was the first €1m deal for a female footballer in history.

Now the Stamford Bridge club are back at it as they seek to rush through a transfer for Walsh, who is believed to have been struggling with homesickness.
Chelsea are ready to pay €950,000 (£900,000) for the midfield star, the BBC's Nizaar Kinsella reports. This will be the second-highest figure ever paid in the women’s game behind only their deal for Girma.
The Blues already dominate the top of this particular list, with Mayra Ramirez’s €500,000 switch from Levante in 2024 also making the top four.
Walsh, meanwhile, is no stranger to a big move. When she left Manchester City to sign for Barcelona in 2022, the €470,000 deal was the biggest in the world at the time.
This will set a new record for a European player, however.

Chelsea make transfer history again
Chelsea Women’s transfer splurge this January is the biggest in the history of the women’s game.
It means that the Blues join the club’s men’s team as having set the record for transfer spending.
Chelsea hold the record for splashing out in male football, with their €464m spend in the summer of 2023/24 a record high.
The Blues also hold the record for the January transfer window, which stands at €301m in 2023.
These figures absolutely dwarf the spending of the women’s side, which is thought to come to around €2m for their two marquee arrivals.
