Cesc Fabregas is determined to sign former Chelsea teammate Nemanja Matic for Como, according to Italian media.

The Spaniard was officially named head coach of the promoted Serie A side in the summer, although in truth, he was the man who had led them to the top flight as a nominal assistant.

Backed by Thierry Henry and Fabregas himself, Como made a splash in the summer market, signing the likes of Raphael Varane - though he has since retired due to injury - Sergi Roberto, Andrea Belotti, Pepe Reina, Alberto Moreno and their crown jewel Nico Paz.

Nevertheless, Como's first season back in Serie A in over 20 years has been a slog so far, with the side just a point above the relegation zone. This means that they are planning more exciting transfers, with wonderkid Real Betis attacker Assane Diao already on his way.

Fabregas is also determined to strengthen his midfield and is eyeing a familiar face.

Fabregas wants Matic

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-Barcelona and Arsenal star is keen to reunite with his former Chelsea teammate Nemanja Matic, currently plying his trade at Olympique Lyon.

Matic, now 36, has played for the likes of AS Roma and Stade Rennais since leaving Man Utd in 2022 and he could already be on the move again as Lyon need to raise funds.

The debt-ridden French giants have been handed a provisional relegation to Ligue 2 unless they can get on an even keel before the end of the financial year, which will require them to sell many if not all of their star players.

Despite his age, Matic has still been a regular starter for the Ligue 1 side this season and this has attracted the attention of Fabregas, who bossed Premier League midfielders alongside the Serbia international during their time together at Chelsea.

Additionally, Fabregas is also interested in making Maximo Perrone's loan move from Man City permanent sooner rather than later.
