Napoli and other clubs are showing an interest in Chelsea summer signing Renato Veiga, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Portugal international's time at Stamford Bridge has gone as expected. Eyebrows were raised when news broke in the previous window that Chelsea were going to sign Veiga.

It wasn't the price that made the deal surprising. At €14 million, Veiga was a potential low-risk, high-reward signing. It was more that the deal came out of nowhere.

Veiga had been plying his trade in Switzerland with Basel after he was let go by Sporting CP off the back of a very disappointing loan spell at Bundesliga club Augsburg. Though he was a Portuguese youth international at the time, he was a bit of a no-name.

And so far, the versatile 21-year-old, who was signed to play at left-back, has failed to dislodge Marc Cucurella from his position.

Veiga to make a swift exit?

Veiga has to date only played 176 minutes of Premier League football as he has primarily featured in Chelsea's 'B Team' that competes in the Conference League and cup competitions.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, he could even make a swift exit from Chelsea as Napoli and several other unnamed clubs are showing an interest in the defender.

The Italian giants have also recently been linked with Blues outcast Carney Chukwuemeka as they have taken a liking to Premier League players under ex-Blues boss Antonio Conte.

However, Romano admits that Chelsea's stance on Veiga's future is not yet clear. Coach Enzo Maresca views him as a valuable member of the squad, but that does not appear to rule out a potential move this month.

Just like Veiga's signing by Chelsea, the news that he could already be leaving again has come out of absolutely nowhere.
