Marc Guehi update

Chelsea are reportedly eager for Marc Guehi to convince Crystal Palace to sell him before the end of the January transfer window.

The former Blues academy prospect has been heavily linked with a return to Stamford Bridge following Wesley Fofana’s latest injury setback, although Palace are expected to demand a huge transfer fee in order to part ways with their captain.

Chelsea held “internal talks” regarding a move for Guehi over the weekend, according to Simon Phillips, who has also revealed that Enzo Maresca’s side are keen for Guehi to push for a Crystal Palace exit this month.

Axel Disasi could reportedly be offloaded to fund a move for Guehi, with the France defender expected to leave Chelsea before the end of 2025.

Kobbie Mainoo boost

Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo following news that Bayern Munich aren’t interested in the England star.

The Blues have emerged as the favourites to sign Mainoo amid his slightly uncertain future at Old Trafford, with some rumours suggesting that Bayern have joined the race for his signature.

However, Sky Germany have insisted that Bayern aren’t pursuing a move for Mainoo, leaving Chelsea as his most likely destination if he chooses to leave Man Utd.

Renato Veiga wants January move

Renato Veiga is eager to leave Chelsea in order to play as a centre-back.

The 21-year-old has featured most prominently at left-back since arriving at Chelsea, but he is keen to play as a central defender as he looks to establish himself as Ruben Dias’ first-choice partner for Portugal ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Sky Germany have revealed that Veiga has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Borussia Dortmund, while Romano has confirmed the news on X.

Furthermore, Romano has revealed that Chelsea are set to demand a fee of €30 million to sanction Veiga's permanent departure this month, with the defender now "expected" to leave in January.

Enzo Maresca hints at transfer mistake

Enzo Maresca has seemingly admitted that signing Cole Palmer, Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku was a poor decision, given they all work best in a No.10 role.

Speaking after Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup, Maresca told reporters: “The only thing I've said since the start is it's difficult to play games with so many attacking players.

“If Joao plays it means that Cole doesn't play, or if Joao plays he has to play with Cole together but it depends on the game.

“For me it's quite easy, we have three players that are more or less similar, Joao and Cole and Christo.

“Joao has played some games, Christo has played, they both played against Ipswich, they both played Southampton and Leicester. In some games we can play with them all together but not every game.”

Ben Chilwell struggles explained

Maresca also revealed why Ben Chilwell hasn’t been favoured this season, with the Englishman set to leave Chelsea this month.

“First of all, because it is my choice,” Maresca said. “I can see Malo Gusto, Reece James or Cucurella doing different kinds of jobs during the game.

“Chilwell is a top full-back, probably doing the job up and down and giving him the opportunity in the past to win titles, to be with international team but I struggle to see Ben doing different type of things.”

Trevoh Chalobah update

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has provided an intriguing update on rumours suggesting that Chelsea could recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Selhurst Park.

The Englishman was a surprise absentee during Palace’s FA Cup clash against Stockport County on Sunday and Glasner’s comments suggest that Chelsea could potentially opt to bring Chalobah back to the club this month.

Speaking after the match, the Crystal Palace boss said: “Trevoh Chalobah didn’t play today for contractual issues. I know he wants and we want him to stay But we still have 19 days so anything can happen.

“I want Chalobah to stay and I know Marc Guehi wants to stay.”

Had Chalobah featured, he would have been cup-tied for the FA Cup if he returned to Chelsea, which points to the Blues at least very seriously considering recalling the player.

Yeremay Hernandez plan

L'Equipe have confirmed Chelsea's interest in Deportivo la Coruna winger Yeremay Hernandez, who has a €20m release clause. Due to the Blues' wealth of wingers, the report states that the 22-year-old could initially be loaned to Strasbourg.

However, Chelsea's permitted three loan spots at Strasbourg are already occupied, so a player would have to be recalled. This would likely be Caleb Wiley, with the left-back currently sidelined following shoulder surgery.

New Carney Chukwuemeka stance

Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea have softened their stance on Carney Chukwuemeka and are now open to loaning him after previously insisting that his €48m release clause would have to be triggered.

Borussia Dortmund are pushing to secure his signature, but a loan to Strasbourg also can't be ruled out, according to Romano. Similarly to Hernandez, the latter scenario would first require a player to be recalled.
