Kvaratskhelia secrets

Romano has revealed all the details of the brewing transfer drama regarding Georgia international winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

PSG have broken open the negotiations for the thrilling attacker, and this may force the hand of other clubs to follow. Manchester United and Chelsea are among the teams also linked with the 23-year-old.

“The story started there because Napoli's contract proposal to extend the contract of Kvaratskhelia was not accepted,” Romano said. “Paris Saint-Germain wanted to sign him last summer. Napoli said: ‘No, no chance, no negotiations.’ Even Antonio Conte, new manager of Napoli last summer, decided to close the doors to the exit of Kvaratskhelia.

“Kvaratskhelia has been a sensation for Napoli, won the title, and has been one of the best signings in terms of expectation and performances in the history of Serie A.

“But it's also important to say that Kvaratskhelia has exactly the same salary and the same contract he signed when he joined Napoli years ago. So imagine, it's a salary that is not even reaching €2 million net per season, which is a salary that is quite normal in Serie A for football players similar in age to Kvaratskhelia.

“Napoli tried to extend this contract, the player is not answering, is not accepting, and so what happens? Napoli are opening doors to the exit of Kvaratskhelia, and he is also opening doors to an immediate exit in January. It’s something that many people didn't expect, but this contract situation really changed the story.”

PSG step up chase for ‘Kvaradona’

Romano has confirmed that PSG are stepping up their chase for the Napoli ace, with a deal to be done around €80m – just about the player’s €72m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).

“PSG have started a concrete attack for Kvaratskhelia. It doesn't mean that the deal is done. It means that Paris Saint-Germain are in negotiations with Napoli for Kvaratskhelia,” he said.

“In May last year, before the start of the summer transfer window, PSG presented a proposal to Napoli sent by the agent of Victor Osimhen, who has an excellent relationship with Paris Saint-Germain, a proposal worth €210 million, €200m guaranteed, €10m in add ons for Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen.

“Napoli said: ‘No. Kvaratskhelia is not for sale.’

“The Osimhen situation took the whole summer. We know then what happened and he joined Galatasaray.

“Kvaratskhelia has a short contract with Napoli. The salary situation is not fixed. And so Paris Saint-Germain are back to the table, but with different conditions. Napoli want €80m for Kvaratskhelia. This is the price tag.

“Paris Saint-Germain want to include players. And so when they started the conversation on Thursday with Napoli, they discussed the opportunity to include a player. And the name I told you yesterday and I can confirm today is Milan Skriniar. But Napoli are not taking him on a permanent transfer because they believe the salary is too expensive. Let's see if they can change the formula or they can find a solution.

“Kvaratskhelia is also in direct contact with Paris Saint-Germain on the contract and PSG are prepared to pay four or per five times what he's earning in Napoli today.

“Let's see what could happen from England because obviously when a player like Kvaratskhelia, with a big bomb drop today, many clubs started calling to understand the situation. So let's see how this is going to evolve.”

Marcus Rashford: Romano outlines the state of play

Romano also dropped an update on Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford, who is set to depart in January, separating the fact from the fiction in this deal.

“Just to clarify to you what happened, also for those who are maybe not following all the details of the story. The agent of the player, the brother of Marcus Rashford, has been in Italy this week, and met with AC Milan. For sure they are there, for sure they want to sign Marcus Rashford,” he said.

“Juventus also met with the agent of Marcus Rashford, and presented their project. Remember that Juventus also like Randal Kolo-Muani at Paris Saint-Germain, who is also a top target for Tottenham. So that's also a situation to follow.

“Juventus are looking at several strikers, and the situation of Marcus Rashford is surely interesting for Juve because they had a meeting with his brother.

“Borussia Dortmund are in contact for Marcus Rashford, so they are another candidate after the Sancho deal with Manchester United one year ago.

“From what I'm told, other clubs could enter the story. So it's still open.

“Forget about Como. There were reports in Italy about Como and Rashford. It’s a fake story, not true. Nothing is happening, not being considered, not even a bid, not even a negotiation. So zero between Rashford and Como.

“Rashford said no to Galatasaray when they approached him because he wants to focus on European clubs. Rashford is not considering Saudi clubs.

“So that's the situation for Marcus Rashford, waiting to see what happens with Manchester United in terms of loan deal conditions.”

Man City close to three signings

Manchester City’s predicted busy January transfer window is about to be realised, with three deals close.

Romano confirmed: “Omar Marmoush has an agreement on personal terms with Man City. He wants to go to Man City. Now Man City are prepared to start the negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt, but Marmoush and City is a really strong and concrete story.

“Man City are also working on Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. They have an agreement with the player while the negotiation is ongoing with Palmeiras around €30-40m. Talks are about bonuses and a sell-on clause.

“Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens is very advanced very close. It’s on the verge of being completed from what I’m told. The player wants to go to Man City and Pep Guardiola wants the player. Pep gave his own green light, from what I told. And now Man City are working to close the deal with Lens. It's really getting closer.”
