The Cityzens have wrapped up their first January transfer in a bid to rectify their disappointing first half of the campaign. Following Rodri's season-ending injury, Pep Guardiola's men have looked more fragile than ever and well off the pace in the Premier League.

To improve the side's fortunes, Man City are set to bring in several January reinforcements and Khusanov has now been officially unveiled as the first new signing.

In the process, the 20-year-old has become the Premier League's first-ever player from Uzbekistan. Khusanov joins from RC Lens in a deal believed to be worth €40 million plus up to €10m in potential add-ons.

The young centre-back has penned a four-and-a-half-year contract with the option for a further season after establishing himself as one of Ligue 1's most promising talents this term.

Man City sign Khusanov

In Khusanov, Man City have signed a machine of a defender, with the 20-year-old boasting a modern skillset that will enable him to thrive in the Premier League even if it may take him a while to get used to the level.

Just 18 months ago, Khusanov was still playing in Belarus, which illustrates just how rapid his rise to prominence has been. Earlier this season, he established himself as a regular at Lens in France after stepping in for Kevin Danso who was suffering from a heart problem.

His former coach Will Still joked that Khusanov could have competed in every sport for Uzbekistan at the summer Olympics in Paris last year because he is 'so complete.'

The centre-back has only played 68 matches of senior football so far in his still-young career, so there is a certain risk attached to his signing, especially for a fee of up to €50m.

However, Khusanov certainly appears to be a diamond in the rough.
