Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has taken an unwelcome twist for the attacker, who has been frozen out of action by head coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford has not played a single minute for Man Utd since being dropped for the away fixture against Manchester City in the Premier League and has appeared on the bench only once during that time.

Amorim has taken exception to the player’s attitude and has effectively placed him on the transfer list.

With a short list of potential suitors due to his high wages and poor form, Rashford had made Barcelona his leading destination. This was incumbent of the Camp Nou side being able to move on Ansu Fati.

Rashford’s dream has, therefore, been shattered by the news coming from Spain that Ansu has no intention of leaving the Blaugrana during the January transfer period.

Despite the winger being left out of the squad in four successive matches, Fati, who has also been linked with a move to Man Utd, has told head coach Hansi Flick that he intends to remain at the club until at least the summer, Mundo Deportivo reports.

The 22-year-old has held talks with the coach and has sought advice from the German as to how he can improve his game. He was reportedly happy with the response given to him by the coach, who told him he needs to play with the same freedom and confidence that he shows in training.

Marcus Rashford: A chance for Dortmund?

Now the ripples of this discussion will be felt in Manchester, where Rashford needs to find a solution in the next fortnight.

Borussia Dortmund represent another potential alternative for the England winger, but his huge wage bill poses another issue. The Bundesliga side, who are without a coach following their decision to sack Nuri Sahin on Wednesday, managed to broker an unlikely deal for Jadon Sancho last January and could target a similar type of move for Rashford.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Deutschland has confirmed there is still an outside chance of a deal.

"Borussia Dortmund are currently not hopeful of signing Marcus Rashford, while FC Barcelona remain in the race," he tweeted.

"However, BVB see a potential opportunity if negotiations for Rashford continue to drag on and a chance arises closer to Deadline Day on February 3rd.

"This would depend on Manchester United deciding to offload the player and the transfer package becoming more affordable."

Otherwise, the options for the winger look limited for the moment, with AC Milan closing the door to any deal by option to sign Kyle Walker from Manchester City instead.
