Newcastle given transfer hope as Romano CONFIRMS January deal
Newcastle United have officially agreed a deal to sell Miguel Almiron back to Atlanta United for a fee worth around €11.5 million.
The Paraguay international has played a peripheral role at St James’ Park so far this season and he is now on the verge of returning to the MLS side, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer expert posted on X: “Miguel Almiron leaves Newcastle to join Atlanta United, confirmed and here we go!

“Verbal agreement sealed between all parties, also player side on four year and half contract. Fee around $12m (€11.5m) for Almiron set to travel for medical tests.”
Almiron has only mustered 150 Premier League minutes so far this campaign, amid Jacob Murphy’s impressive form, and he hasn’t registered a goal contribution in any competition since an assist against Blackburn Rovers back in February 2024.
Almiron scored 22 goals in 70 appearances across a two-year spell at Atlanta before joining Newcastle in January 2019, while he helped the club win the MLS Cup in 2018.

Newcastle handed transfer boost
With Almiron set to leave for €11.5m, Newcastle’s hopes of signing a new right winger have improved tenfold.
The Magpies were desperate to upgrade their options last summer and they identified Chelsea star Noni Madueke as their primary target for 2024.
However, Eddie Howe’s side were unable to finalise a deal and the England international has now established himself as a key player at Stamford Bridge.
PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, Southampton’s Tyler Dibling and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo have all emerged as key transfer options in recent months, and Newcastle are expected to seriously pursue a new right winger when Almiron’s exit is officially confirmed.
The St James’ Park outfit are yet to complete their first signing of the January transfer window, while Isaac Hayden (loan to Portsmouth) and Alex Murphy (loan to Bolton Wanderers) are their only departures.
