The Frenchman was initially open to leaving the Bavarians in the final days of the window after Vincent Kompany broke his promise of giving him more game time.

The 19-year-old went into the January window determined to remain at Bayern and fight for his place, but a lack of minutes in recent fixtures saw him change his mind.

This attracted the attention of a host of clubs, with Bayern director Max Eberl admitting on Thursday that he had never received such an avalanche of approaches for a single player before.

Tottenham appeared to be leading the race for the 19-year-old after striking a €60 million verbal agreement with Bayern over a permanent transfer, but the final decision was still in the hands of Tel.

Tel rejects Spurs

Earlier on Friday, L'Equipe and Fabrizio Romano reported that Tel decided to reject Spurs despite the club-to-club agreement already being in place.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy evenpersonally flew to Munich to convince the youngster to make the move, but his efforts were in vain.

The 19-year-old will reassess his options again in the summer after receiving approaches from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd.
