Real Madrid and Man City expected to launch SHOCK Tonali bid
Manchester City and Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Sandro Tonali, according to Italian media.
The Newcastle midfielder has been in stunning form in recent times. Tonali has fully revitalised his career after hitting rock bottom with his suspension for illicit gambling, which saw him sidelined until last summer.
Tonali had been seen as a big-money flop at Newcastle as he cost €64 million in 2023 but had little impact to speak of in his first months at St. James' Park.
However, since his return to football in the summer and, more accurately, since Eddie Howe moved him back into a holding midfield role in December, the Italian has been nothing short of sensational for the Magpies.
The 24-year-old has shown why, during his youth, he was described as Italy's heir to Andrea Pirlo and his recent form is not going unnoticed.
Real Madrid, Man City eye up Tonali
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Real Madrid and Man City hold an interest in Tonali and could even launch a bid for him in the summer.
"I don't know if he could return to Italy in June, but I think Tonali will leave Newcastle," he told Sky Italia. "I think there could be an important market for him at an international level.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Real Madrid buy him, but that will depend on whether Carlo [Ancelotti] stays or Xabi Alonso arrives. Also, City are watching.
Sandro is a player who, beyond a possible return to Italy – because he could be happy to return – could have an international outlet on the market."
Earlier this season, there had been talk that Tonali was unhappy at Newcastle and could leave the club. His recent form has dampened those rumours, but it is clear that clubs are still attentive to his situation.
