Arsenal get GOOD NEWS over Gyokeres
Arsenal have been given some good news over their prospects of landing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in the summer – but this has been offset by a less encouraging update.
The Gunners have targeted Gyokeres as a potential signing to bolster their offensive line. While there have been suggestions that he could leaving Sporting in January – PSG were notably said to be preparing a bid of €100 million to match his release clause – the likelihood is now that the Sweden international will remain in Lisbon until the summer.
According to Record, though, any club bidding for Gyokeres at that point may not need to match his release clause, which will have dropped to €80m by that point.
While this is good news for Arsenal, the bad news is that Bayern Munich are stepping up their interest in the player, who bagged the winner in Sporting’s 1-0 Allianz Cup victory over Porto earlier this week.

Why has Gyokeres’ price dropped?
Gyokeres is still set to leave Sporting for a handsome price – one that is likely to be in excess of his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €55.7 million.
Interest in the 26-year-old has skyrocketed this season, largely because of his prolific form in both the Liga Portugal and also the Champions League. Combined in these competitions, he has scored 26 goals in 23 games, plus laid on three for team-mates.
There are, however, dangerous precedents of players prolific in Portugal leaving for big money only to fail to live up to expectations.

The most notable of these is Darwin Nunez, who left Benfica to join Liverpool in the summer of 2022 for an initial fee of €75m, with up to €25m to follow in bonuses. The Reds have already paid €10m extra for a striker who has offered a poor return for the money they have invested in him, scoring just 37 goals in 121 outings, with four of these coming in 25 matches this year.
Gyokeres is also around his peak. He will turn 27 in the summer, so there is unlikely to be too much more to come from the powerful forward, who is under contract with Sporting until 2028.
He would appear to guarantee goals, but is seems that the top clubs are wary he’s not proven himself at the very top level yet.
