It has been revealed that Kane has a release clause that becomes active next winter and will allow him to leave Bayern Munich in summer 2026 for €60 million.

A Tottenham legend, it would be a sensation if he were to wind up at Arsenal, who are crying out for a prolific centre-forward, yet Merson does not see the issue with a move.

“Arsenal will buy him. Why not? Sol Campbell made the move,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“If he was available, you’ve got to weigh it up.”

’Proven’ Kane a bargain

fired!

Although Kane will be turning 33 by the time any prospective move takes place, Merson says his proven quality means that he will still be a bargain at €60m.

“For me it is. People go: ‘Oh he’s this age and this age,’ but Arsenal need now,” he explained. “After people said Salah, I said that I wouldn’t give him a three-year contract. I’d give him a one or two, but not a three. But that’s different because Liverpool probably go and win the league this year.

“If Arsenal haven’t won the league, they have to take a chance. They’ve got to buy someone that’s proven and done it.

“When you’re Harry Kane and you can go for €60m, there are only a couple of teams that can buy him. Man City aren’t going to buy him, what you hear about Man Utd, the Mathys Tel situation, that was worrying that they wouldn’t pay the loan. And that’s it, maybe Tottenham will buy him back. But he has to win something at Bayern to go back to Tottenham cause if he doesn’t win anything at Bayern, you’re not going to go back to Tottenham to win nothing.

“It would be a big move. If he comes back, does he think he can beat Alan Shearer’s record? I don’t really see the point in him coming back if he doesn’t think he can beat that."

Kane sits on 213 Premier League goals, second in the all-time ranking, with Shearer out in front on 260.
