Enzo Maresca is being heavily linked with the Chelsea sack but Fabrizio Romano insists the Italian manager is safe for now.

After a brilliant start to the season in which Chelsea even threatened a title challenge, the wheels have come off in 2025.

Maresca’s men have only picked up three wins in their last 11 matches across all competitions and Champions League qualification is now in serious doubt.

Maresca has been heavily linked with the sack following a second defeat to Brighton in less than a week on Friday, although fans have also urged Clearlake Capital and the club’s sporting directors to leave Stamford Bridge.

Things went from bad to worse for Maresca on Friday as Chelsea were thrashed 3-0 by Brighton in arguably their worst performance of the season.

The Blues boasted 70% possession at the AMEX Stadium, but they failed to register a single shot on target during the entire match.

A stunning Kaoru Mitoma strike opened the scoring for Fabian Hurzeler’s side before Yankuba Minteh netted a brace as Brighton earned their first home league win since 9 November.

Despite the increased pressure, Romano insists that Maresca is not under any imminent danger.

What did Romano say?

"There is no danger, no problem, no issues,” Romano said on his YouTube channel about the reports that Maresca could be sacked.

Chelsea appointed Maresca as their new head coach last summer on a five-year contract.

The Italian succeeded Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s boss.

Chelsea reportedly paid €10 million in compensation to buy the Italian out of his Leicester contract, illustrating how highly they rated him. Maresca quickly emerged as one of the top candidates for the job and personal terms did not prove an issue.

Maresca had led Leicester City to the Championship title last season, playing some of the most impressive football in England in the early parts of the campaign.

There had been some opposition to Maresca’s appointment from fans, though, with Leicester losing seven of their final 14 games of the season and just about limping over the line.

After a bright start at Chelsea, Maresca and fans will be hoping that he doesn’t oversee another poor end to the season this term.
