Chelsea attacker Joao Felix has joined AC Milan on loan for the rest of the season.

The Portuguese's torrid second spell is over, albeit only temporarily. His return to Stamford Bridge always felt more like a marriage of convenience than a sensible move and it quite predictably did not work out.

Felix was signed for a whopping €53 million from Atletico Madrid in the summer just so that Chelsea could offload Conor Gallagher to the Spanish giants and thus balance the books with the 'pure profit' they received for the academy graduate.

Chelsea did not actually need Felix and head coach Enzo Maresca only sparingly used him in the Premier League, which unsurprisingly did not thrill the former Barcelona loanee.

Felix primarily featured for Chelsea's 'B Team' in the Conference League and domestic cups. He did score regularly when he got on the pitch, but most of his strikes came against 'lesser opposition.'

AC Milan sign Felix

After expressing a desire for regular minutes and asking to leave Chelsea after just half a season, Felix has now officially left the club to join AC Milan on loan until the end of the campaign.

It is a straight loan deal, so Milan do not have the option of making his move permanent in the summer, although they could of course engage in fresh talks with the Blues in the next window.

Milan will pay a €6 million loan fee for the 25-year-old and cover his salary. He was the desired target of new head coach (and compatriot) Sergio Conceicao.

After signing Santiago Gimenez for €32m, the Rossoneri have now made another high-profile acquisition to help them achieve their target of getting into the Champions League after a dire start to the campaign.
