Manager Ruben Amorim is frustrated with certain members of Manchester United’s hierarchy over their handling of key transfer dealings, particularly Casemiro’s stay and the delayed departure of Marcus Rashford, sources close to the Red Devils have told FootballTransfers.

Amorim was left disappointed that Rashford’s transfer to Aston Villa wasn’t completed quickly enough to secure a replacement. While the club managed to offload a substantial portion of the forward’s wages until the summer, the delay ultimately prevented them from strengthening the squad for the rest of the season.

This is an area of the squad the former Sporting CP boss has made clear he is unhappy with. Kobbie Mainoo started as a false 9 in last weekend’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, a match United lost 2-0.

Amorim, who took charge at Old Trafford ahead of the 2024/25 season, had been keen on reshaping the squad to fit his tactical vision – starting in January.

Casemiro failure leaves Amorino raging

The Portuguese coach was expected to offload several high-profile names, including Casemiro, who has struggled for form and fitness since the latter stages of last season. However, with no suitable offers materialising, the Brazilian remains on United’s books, much to the manager’s annoyance.

Casemiro, 32, was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but negotiations reportedly stalled due to his high wages and United’s valuation.

Amorim had been hoping to reinvest in younger, more dynamic midfield options, but the failure to move the former Real Madrid ace on has left the club with limited financial flexibility.

The situation now presents a dilemma for the Portuguese boss, who must decide whether to reintegrate Casemiro into his plans or limit his role in the squad. Given Amorim’s emphasis on high-energy football, it remains to be seen how the veteran midfielder fits into the new system.

With the transfer window closed, tensions could rise behind the scenes as Amorim seeks to impose his authority on the squad. How he handles Casemiro’s situation and his relationship with the club’s hierarchy may define the early stages of his tenure at Old Trafford.
