Liverpool are ready to give up on Darwin Nunez this summer but the Premier League leaders are not willing to sell their misfiring striker on a cut-price deal even with a decline in his form.

Despite Liverpool’s impressive start to life under Arne Slot, Nunez has struggled for consistent playing time, starting just seven times in the league and failing to impress with his limited minutes.

Nunez’s latest barren display saw him miss a guilt-edge chance as Liverpool dropped points against Aston Villa this week and it appears patience has run out with the Uruguayan at Anfield.

According to TBR Football, both Liverpool and Nunez are ready for a parting of ways this summer, however Liverpool will demand ‘big money’ for the forward, having signed him for €85 million in 2022.

While Nunez is said to be ‘open’ about his future, Liverpool’s asking price of more than €65m is leading to limited landing spots outside the Saudi Pro League for the club’s number nine.

Saudi sides could reignite January approach for Nunez

Nunez still has three years remaining on his contract but the club told him in January that they would be open to his exit, although talks with other teams are not believed to have progressed past an intermediary stage.

With the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz ahead of him in the pecking order, Nunez is said to have accepted his future lies away from Liverpool and is open to a move to the Middle East.

Teams such as Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr are believed to have made approaches for Nunez in January, with reports that they even made an offer matching Liverpool’s valuation, but the Reds allegedly did not wish to destabilise their season with a major departure.

However, a reignited pursuit in the summer could pave the way for Nunez’s exit and allow Liverpool to finance much-needed investment into their squad as they look to continue their rebuild under Slot.
