Romano announces Man Utd star preparing to leave in move that does Amorim no favours

Manchester United are set for a summer transfer overhaul and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed one star name already preparing to leave Old Trafford in a deal that will not make Ruben Amorim’s life any easier.
Romano has said that veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen is poised to depart at the end of his contract in June.

Although the loss of the former Tottenham, Inter and Brentford midfielder does not come as a surprise, it is unlikely to make Amorim’s efforts at renewing his squad much easier.
Romano took to X to confirm the situation, stating: “Christian Eriksen will soon start exploring options for his next chapter, as he’s set to leave Man United at the end of the season.
“His contract won’t be extended and Eriksen will be a free agent in the summer.”

Why Eriksen’s departure will make little difference
Although it’s clear that Man Utd need rid of the excess players in their squad, of which Eriksen has undoubtedly become part of, the Red Devils’ main challenge will be raising funds to allow them to strengthen.
Without funds to allow them to do this, it promises to be a major challenge.
Amorim has already painted a bleak picture ahead of the summer transfer window, particularly with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) remaining in place for at least another year.
"You know the rules of Financial Fair Play (FFP), we have a problem at the moment, but my focus is on that and not the other things,” he said on Friday.
“Here is simple, to do something we need to sell players.”

Eriksen’s departure is not about to free up a massive space on the wage bill at Old Trafford and, because he is leaving, he will generate no transfer income to put towards new signings.
Man Utd are still faced with the likely scenario of having to sell at least one top player, with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo among the fan favourites who may need to make way for the good of the team.
