Mathys Tel is reportedly eager to join Manchester United this summer, despite his Deadline Day loan move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The France U21 international completed a temporary move to north London on 3 February and he made his debut for the club during their abysmal 4-0 loss to Liverpool in the second-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday.

Tel replaced Richarlison in first-half stoppage time and he endured a difficult night at Anfield, registering zero dribbles, zero shots, zero tackles or interceptions and only one key pass.

Furthermore, he is now reportedly aiming to join Man Utd on a permanent deal when his loan spell at Tottenham ends this summer.

That is according to Bild reporter Christian Falk, who told CaughtOffside: “There were also talks with Manchester United who were interested in Mathys Tel’s signature. Tel was certainly open to the move, but United weren’t prepared to pay the loan fee Bayern Munich were demanding at the time (€5m).

“Whether Tel stays with Bayern beyond the summer or moves on, it’s entirely up to him. If he can make the step to United, he would like to do it.

“If he sees a chance at Bayern Munich, perhaps he would also stay, but I think it’s hard for him, as he didn’t make it under Vincent Kompany. So, I think if he is performing very well, he will stay in the Premier League.”

Ange Postecoglou on Mathys Tel’s Tottenham debut

Following Spurs’ 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, Ange Postecoglou was eager to praise both Kevin Danso and Tel for their debut performances, despite the result.

“Yeah they did OK. Kevin was really positive, as was Maty,” he told reporters. “It's hard, you know, throwing guys in after their first training sessions, it's not ideal.

“That's part of our dilemma at the moment of trying to get some fluency and consistency but also knowing we have to keep tinkering with the starting line up to account for everything going on. But I thought they acquitted themselves well.”

Tel, 19, is in line to start his first game for Tottenham when they face Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
