Man Utd to move for Osimhen on one condition as Romano confirms U-turn

Manchester United will move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer on one condition, according to football transfer news reporter Fabrizio Romano.
Man Utd’s need for a new centre-forward is clear. Although Ruben Amorin’s side claimed a 2-2 draw against Everton on Saturday, fighting back from a couple of goals down in the process, it was another largely disappointing display.

Lying 15th in the Premier League table, the Red Devils could use an injection of quality, and Romano says that they see Osimhen as just such a player.
Indeed, Man Utd aren’t even sending scouts across to Galatasaray, where he is playing on loan, to check on the Nigeria international star’s form because they are well aware of the player’s qualities.
Reports on Sunday indicated that Osimhen is “95% likely” to sign for the Red Devils, but what is crucial for Amorim’s side, Romano says, is that they can afford the financial package.

How much will Osimhen cost?
Osimhen has a release clause of around €75 million with Napoli that will become active this summer – some €45m less than he was available for in 2024.
While this naturally makes such a prolific scorer an attractive option, Romano points out that there is no guarantee that United will be able to afford him even at this price. As such, there is no concrete update to give on their interest in the player.
Amorim previously indicated that the Red Devils will need to sell before they buy in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Being able to do this will be vital to any deal being struck for Osimhen.
Romano points out that a deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres could hinge on the same thing.
Romano confirms Chelsea U-turn on Osimhen
Osimhen is unlikely to be Chelsea bound next summer, according to Romano.
Although the Stamford Bridge club were eager to sign the striker last summer, they felt that his wage of €12 million net per season would destroy their pay structure and was, therefore, not feasible for them to match.
Similarly, PSG’s transfer strategy “completely changed” after they had a bid knocked back for the player last summer, suggesting that they will not be pushing in the same way they did at one point.
The Saudi Pro League is the other possible destination for Osimhen, with a transfer here a scenario to be taken seriously.
No decision is expected from the player, meanwhile, until the end of the season, with Osimhen determined to respect his loan with Galatasaray.
