Man Utd battle Arsenal as Mathys Tel makes transfer decision
Arsenal and Manchester United are both “in contact” with Mathys Tel as they look to complete a late deal for the Bayern Munich forward.
The France U21 international has reportedly decided to leave the Allianz Arena before the January transfer window slams shut, and Arsenal and Man Utd are deemed to be the frontrunners in the race for his signature.
Tottenham Hotspur recently saw a €60 million bid for Tel accepted by Bayern Munich, but the Frenchman swiftly rejected a move to Ange Postecoglou’s side, despite Daniel Levy’s best efforts to convince him to join.

Following Spurs’ failure to land the 21-year-old, Arsenal and Man Utd are advancing in discussions to sign him as they look to bolster their forward line.
Both clubs have been heavily linked with purchasing a new striker in 2025 and Tel is viewed as a potential alternative to the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.
FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are ready to submit an offer for Tel, while Man Utd are expected to battle Mikel Arteta’s side for his signature amid Rasmus Hojlund’s recent struggles in front of goal.

In fact, both clubs remain in talks to land the Bayern Munich star, as per Fabrizio Romano. He posted on X: “Understand Manchester United and Arsenal are both in contact with Mathys Tel’s camp now!
“Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Thierry] Henry are two of the main idols for Mathys who’s now considering his options. Still concrete chances to leave Bayern in the final 36h, waiting on final decision.”
Mathys Tel to leave Bayern Munich?
Tel joined Bayern from Stade Rennais for €20m in 2022, but he has failed to establish himself as a regular starter since his move to the Bundesliga.
The France youth international has only started four games in all competitions so far this season, while he has been an unused substitute in 14 matches since the appointment of Vincent Kompany last summer.
