The Frenchman had been heavily linked with a number of top Premier League clubs amid his lack of game time in Bavaria and has hooked up with Ange Postecoglou's side on loan.

There is a purchase option in the agreement worth in the region of €55 million, which if bought out will see Tel secure a contract until 2031.

The north London side initially had a €60m permanent bid accepted by Bayern, but Tel rejected the move, despite Daniel Levy’s best efforts.

However, he changed his mind after a long phone call with Postecoglou and is set to join Tottenham on a short-term loan, as per Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United had also been linked with a Deadline Day move for Tel, but he has agreed a deal with Tottenham and he will provide much-needed attacking depth for the Premier League outfit.

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League table, having won just two of their last 12 matches in the competition, and academy graduate Mikey Moore started in attack during their win over Brentford on Sunday.

Mathys Tel to join Tottenham

Tel has made 83 first-team appearances for Bayern since joining the club for €20m from Stade Rennais in 2022, but he has largely played a peripheral role at the Allianz Arena amid significant competition for places.

The France U21 international has only started four matches in all competitions so far this season, while he has been an unused substitute on 14 occasions.

Tel is expected to provide cover across Tottenham’s forward line, with the Bayern star capable of playing off either flank or as a central striker.
