Ronald Araujo to Man Utd: Rating the rumour

Manchester United are ready to offer Barcelona a staggering €100 million in an operation that is already being described as “one of the biggest” in the summer transfer window.
Ruben Amorim’s side are ready to move for Ronald Araujo, who Fichajes claims has emerged as their leading target to strengthen the heart of Man Utd’s defence.

Incredibly, it is stated that United are willing to offer up to €100m for the Uruguay international in a deal that would be the second largest in the history of the Red Devils, surpassed only by the €105m it took to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.
Araujo may only recently have signed a new contract with Barcelona that stretches to 2031, but because of the ongoing financial difficulties at the Catalan side, a deal could be possible.
Juventus previously made an offer to sign the 25-year-old in January, but the offer from the Turin side came nowhere near Barcelona’s expectation.

Ronald Araujo to Man Utd: Rating the rumour
While there is little doubt over Araujo’s pedigree, it seems improbable that he will wind up at Man Utd next summer, particularly in a lavish deal.
The Red Devils may not be in the financial mire to the extent that Barca find themselves, yet Amorim has previously admitted that they need to sell before they buy due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
What this means is that they will have to be focused on their transfers. Man Utd will have to be specific and accurate in their business, prioritising the areas that most need to be strengthened.
While improvements are needed across the board, it is unlikely that the centre-back role that Araujo plays will be one of these key areas.
Instead, a new centre-forward, a winger and a central midfielder are all needed.
With United likely to be working on a tight budget, spending €100m on Araujo, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €58m is fanciful.
