Top Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko has a formal release clause in his RB Leipzig contract, according to German media.

The Slovenia international has been the Gunners' No.1 option for the striker position since 2024. Arsenal were leading the race to sign Sesko last summer as they had managed to get complete buy-in from him for their project, but the 21-year-old did not yet feel ready.

Sesko opted to politely turn down Arsenal's approach and extended his RB Leipzig contract instead. At the time, it was reported that his release clause, which had risen from €50 million to €65 million due to his form in the second half of last season, had been removed.

It was claimed that instead of a formal release clause, Sesko and Leipzig had reached a gentlemen's agreement that the No.9 would be allowed to leave in 2025 if a club were to offer a fee in that €65m ballpark.

However, this reporting has turned out to be incorrect.

Sesko's price keeps rising

According to Sky Germany, and confirmed by FootballTransfers sources, Sesko does have a proper release clause in his Leipzig contract and it is once again variable.

The clause officially becomes valid in the summer and Sesko's price has already risen from that previous €65m figure to €70m. It can increase even further and reach up to €80m.

Indeed, it is very likely that Sesko will command an €80m fee in the summer, a significant change from the original €50m price tag that made him such a sought-after 'market opportunity' last season.

Like last term, Sesko's final price tag will once again be determined by his statistics for Leipzig, primarily games played, goals and assists. The youngster has scored 17 goals and provided five assists across all competitions so far this campaign.

All the 'big' Premier League clubs except Man City hold an interest in him, but Arsenal are thought to be in charge of the situation. Sesko's preference for the North London club has not changed.
