Arsenal have made RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko their No.1 transfer priority for the summer, and the prolific striker has now sent Mikel Arteta’s club an indication that he is open to the move.

Sesko, 21, has been in prolific form this season, scoring 17 goals in 34 matches for the Bundesliga giants, including four in eight during their short-lived Champions League campaign.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed before the January transfer window that Sesko is top of Arteta’s shortlist ahead of the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, and that remains the case. Indeed, the Gunners are currently leading the race for the striker.

Competition is building for the striker, though. TBR reports that Liverpool are now tracking Sesko, who has scored 16 goals in 39 appearances for Slovenia.

Arsenal are well placed to fend off this interest, despite the remarkable season that the Reds are enjoying.

According to the report, Sesko would prefer to move to London, meaning that Chelsea could emerge as more realistic rivals to his signature, despite interest from Manchester United, Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Sesko’s release fee will not have to be met

In another major boost for Arsenal, it has become apparent that Sesko’s release clause of €70 million will not need to be met for Sesko to be sold.

TBR Football says: “Leipzig will not demand that his release is paid in full, as long as the price tag and overall deal is deemed to be suitable.”

Sesko’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €56.3m and has more than doubled in the space of a year thanks to his excellent form with the Bundesliga club.

His release fee of €70m is, therefore, a little above his current market value.

Arsenal are hoping to land both Sesko and Ollie Watkins in a spectacular summer coup, but they will need to sign the former for a good price to make this a viable double deal.
