The Brazil international has become a legend at St James’ Park since his surprise arrival from Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022 and he helped the Magpies secure their first piece of domestic silverware in 70 years on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak fired Newcastle to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final to secure their first major trophy since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969 and their first domestic triumph since the 1955 FA Cup.

Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a Newcastle departure over the past few years, with Pep Guardiola eager to bring him to Man City and Arsenal reportedly ready to submit a huge offer ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window.

The Brazilian’s emotional reaction to Newcastle’s Carabao Cup glory suggests he could be set to extend his stay at St James’ Park for a little while longer, although a move may be on the cards in the future.

What has Bruno Guimaraes said?

Following Newcastle’s triumph over Liverpool on Sunday, a teary-eyed Guimaraes told Sky Sports: “It's all for these fans. They deserve everything.

“When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in the club’s history. We can now say we are the champions again. The fans deserve everything. This is one of the best days of my life. I don't have any words.

“It's one of the best days of my life. For them [the fans] it's like the World Cup. People have grown up and not seen us as champions. We are here to make history and I’m so happy. My first year as captain of this club and it's one of the best days. The team, the fans, the owners - we deserve this. This is unbelievable.

When asked how much he cares about the club, Guimaraes added: "This is my second home. From the relegation zone to the Champions League to now champions. I think we are making history.”

He then dropped a hint that he could suggest he may leave St James’ Park in the future. “Some day when I leave this club, I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to [Alan] Shearer,” Guimaraes admitted. “He texted me before the game. I'm so emotional today.”

Guimaraes, 27, still has three years remaining on his current contract at Newcastle, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at a career high of €82.4 million.
