The Blues agreed a shock deal for Manchester United target Quenda last week, before finalising terms to purchase Essugo, who is currently on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas, after missing out on his signature in January.

Sporting have now confirmed the imminent sales of Quenda and Essugo to Chelsea with an official statement on their website.

Quenda will join the Blues for an initial fee of €50.8m, with potential add-ons increasing that figure to €52.1m, but he will remain with the Portuguese giants until the summer of 2026.

Essugo, on the other hand, will be available for selection during Chelsea’s Club World Cup campaign this summer and he will join Enzo Maresca’s side for a fixed fee of €22.3m in July.

Chelsea sign Quenda and Essugo

Quenda has made 44 first-team appearances for Sporting, scoring two goals and providing eight assists, despite largely operating from a wing-back berth in Lisbon.

He is, however, viewed as a winger by the Chelsea hierarchy, and this is a key reason why he opted to snub significant interest from Man Utd in order to secure a move to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Essugo is currently on loan at Las Palmas and he has thoroughly impressed since his arrival in Spain. The 20-year-old is seen as a capable deputy to Moises Caicedo and he will provide competition for the likes of Andrey Santos, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and fellow new signing Mathis Amougou.

After finalising deals for Quenda and Essugo, Chelsea have now completed five signings before the 2025 summer transfer window has even opened - with Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez and Mike Penders also joining the Blues.
