The striker was forced off the pitch in the second half and was later seen leaving the ground on crutches after the game.

City announced on Monday that Haaland will undergo a specialist consultation on Tuesday to get a better understanding of the injury.

When will Haaland return from injury?

They said that they expect Haaland to return before the end of the season, but the feeling is that any return may not be until the Club World Cup in June in the United States.

If the injury is so serious to rule him out for the rest of the European season, then there is an extreme scenario where Haaland may never play for City ever again - at least on European soil.

A decision in Man City’s trial over their alleged 130 breaches of Premier League financial rules will be announced any day now.

An independent hearing has officially concluded following a four-year investigation conducted by UEFA.

Man City have denied any wrongdoing, but the club have been accused of failing to provide accurate financial information from 2009 to 2018, and failing to co-operate from 2018 to 2023.

If City are found guilty there is the very real possibility that they will be relegated from the Premier League.

If that happens, then the likelihood is that - like many of his teammates - Haaland will leave the club, despite recently signing a new contract until 2024.

This would mean that Haaland may never play for City in the Premier League, English or European competition ever again.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are leading the chase for the striker.

And it could even be possible that Haaland never plays for City again if he decides to either join a new club before the Club World Cup begins, or sit out the tournament to protect himself for his new club.

Naturally, there is much uncertainty surrounding City in these final weeks of the season.

The injury to Haaland has not helped matters as City aim to win the FA Cup and finish in the top five of the Premier League in order to qualify on the pitch for the Champions League.
