The Norway international recently signed a bumper new contract that runs until 2034, but he could be set to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer if they are unable to achieve qualification for Europe’s elite club competition.

That is according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, who claim that Haaland’s future at Man City will be uncertain if they don’t finish inside the Premier League top five this campaign.

The 24-year-old is reportedly unwilling to spend a season without competing in the Champions League and a host of clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, have been linked with a big-money swoop.

Man City are currently fifth in the Premier League table, although they have already lost nine matches so far this campaign and they are only four points clear of Bournemouth in 10th place.

What has Erling Haaland said?

While Haaland is reportedly eager to leave Man City if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, he has previously expressed his desire to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

Following confirmation of his new long-term contract at Man City, Haaland told the club’s official website: “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.

“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it's the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

“I also want to thank [manager] Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years.”
