Manchester United are only interested in signing Jobe Bellingham because of his brother Jude.

That is according to former Man Utd chief scout Mick Brown, who appears to hint that all the interest in the Sunderland starlet is due to him being the brother of a superstar.

The younger Bellingham, 19, has attracted interest from numerous big Premier League clubs in recent weeks, including Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

United’s interest has increased over the past days but Brown believes it is down to nepotism.

What did Brown say?

“Well, they would know all there is to know about him – he would’ve had to improve a lot since the last time I saw him, to be at that [Man Utd] level,” Brown told Football Insider.

“[It] depends whether he’s available, but I can’t see Sunderland falling over backwards to do everybody a favour, and letting them have him for next to nothing.

“What I know about him [from] when I last saw him, I don’t think he’s of that standard yet, but he’s obviously come on a bit.

“If his brother wasn’t his brother, I don’t think there would be that interest in him, trust me, but everybody seems to think ‘well there’s one in the family, there might be two’.”

The 19-year-old Bellingham is fighting for promotion to the Premier League this season as Sunderland currently sit fourth in the table.

Bellingham has impressed with his versatility, seamlessly shifting between an attacking and defensive midfield role throughout his time at the club.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Man Utd have yet to open any kind of talks with Bellingham or Sunderland over a move - and the player isn't pushing to get out - but there is an awareness that he would be an ideal fit for the club.

“The player’s not really agitating for a move," Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT. "There's nothing advanced yet between Man Utd and Bellingham. But what we can say about Man Utd is that part of Jim Ratcliffe’s sporting-led strategy is to lower the average age and to invest in home-grown talents. And Bellingham ticks both boxes.”
