Reds supporters are angered by Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave the club during his prime years, especially considering he previously admitted that his dream was to captain Liverpool.

However, the 26-year-old has opted to depart his boyhood club in order to join Real Madrid on a Bosman deal after months of negotiations with Los Blancos.

Alexander-Arnold’s free transfer move to the Santiago Bernabeu hasn’t been formally announced yet, but the deal is reportedly in place and he will become the sixth English footballer to play for Real Madrid during the Spanish club’s illustrious history.

Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool for Real Madrid

Spanish outlet Defensa Central claim that while Alexander-Arnold has refused to discuss his move to Real Madrid publicly, he has privately admitted that he is “saddened” by the criticism he has received from Liverpool fans.

Alexander-Arnold has been blamed for leaving Anfield on a free transfer, but he reportedly believes his Bosman deal is Liverpool’s fault as they rejected a €30 million offer from Real Madrid during the January transfer window.

As a result, the England international “doesn’t understand the criticism he’s been receiving.”

Alexander-Arnold, who has been dubbed a "traitor" by Liverpool fans, will leave the Reds after 21 years at the club and he is expected to usurp Dani Carvajal as Real Madrid’s starting right-back next season.

He is set to sign a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and he will link up with international team-mate, and close friend, Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital.
