Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is reportedly determined to fight for his place at the club, despite Ruben Amorim’s desire to sign a new shot-stopper this summer.

Onana, 28, has struggled since his €50.2 million move from Inter Milan in 2023, but he is eager to remain at Old Trafford amid links with an exit during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Amorim wants Man Utd to purchase a new goalkeeper ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, however Onana only wants to play for the Red Devils and will not push to secure an exit, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are both set to depart Old Trafford this summer, and Man Utd are therefore expected to secure the signing of a new goalkeeper later this year. But, this is unlikely to impact Onana’s future at the club as he is determined to continue his stay with the Red Devils.

The Cameroon international has made three errors leading directly to a goal in the Premier League so far this season, and Espanyol star Joan Garcia, who has also been linked with Arsenal, has emerged as a potential transfer target for Man Utd amid Onana’s concerning form.

Ruben Amorim on Andre Onana

Despite Amorim’s desire to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, he sent words of encouragement to Onana ahead of Man Utd’s FA Cup defeat to Fulham on Sunday.

“This season he did some great saves that save our team and then sometimes has some problems,” Amorim told reporters.

“But that is normal and I think if you look through our team you can find a lot of players with that issue, so I think we are not performing so well as a team and sometimes some players have problems.

“We just have to support Andre, like we support all the players, and prepare the next game. Forget about the past and prepare the future.”
