Newcastle United are hoping to land Trafford this summer, after narrowly missing out on his signature in 2024, while Manchester City have been tipped to trigger their buy-back clause following concerns over the long-term futures of Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

However, Man Utd are also interested in signing Trafford and they have already submitted enquiries over a potential deal for the England shot-stopper.

That is according to TBR Football, who claim that Ruben Amorim’s side have identified Trafford as a player capable of challenging Andre Onana for the number one shirt next season.

Man Utd want to sign James Trafford

News of Man Utd’s interest in Trafford follows reports that Onana could be sold by the Red Devils this summer.

The Cameroon international has endured a tough spell since his arrival from Inter Milan for a fee of €50.2 million in 2023, and reports have speculated that he may be offloaded as Amorim searches for a more reliable presence in between the sticks.

In addition to Trafford, Man Utd have also been linked with Lille’s Lucas Chevalier and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens in recent weeks.

Trafford, 22, spent eight years in Man City’s academy, without making a single first-team appearance, before joining Burnley for €17.3m in July 2023.

If he joins Man Utd this summer, the Englishman would follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps by becoming the latest Man City academy graduate to move to Old Trafford.
