Manchester United have been told that Victor Osimhen is the striker who is the club’s likeliest No.9 signing in the summer, with Rasmus Hojlund set to make way for the Nigeria international.

United have had another campaign in which they have struggled to find the net and in the January transfer window elected to offload Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa on loan following a fallout with head coach Ruben Amorim.

Hojlund has been left as the club’s only senior centre-forward, putting the Red Devils in the embarrassing position of starting Kobbie Mainoo as a false 9 at one point.

Now Osimhen has been tipped to complete a summer transfer from Napoli to solve Man Utd’s problem.

Osimhen, 26, is available at around €70 million, which is a price point that Man Utd can afford, according to TalkSport’s Alex Crook, while play player’s wage demands have crucially dropped since last season. The Nigeria star would have moved to Chelsea in August, but the deal broke down as he wanted an annual salary of €12m.

Crook claims the African hitman is the "likeliest" option to sign for the Old Trafford side in the summer amidst a flurry of rumours linking the Red Devils to a string of top forwards.

A part-exchange deal with Rasmus Hojlund is a real possibility, Crook confirmed.

“I think he’ll move on at the end of the season. There’s interest from Italy. INEOS and Ruben Amorim are not necessarily convinced that he’s the man to lead the line moving forward. There’s interest from the likes of Napoli, it wouldn’t surprise me if Osimhen comes in the opposite direction,” he said.

While Hojlund has struggled in the Premier League, netting only three Premier League goals this season, he previously flourished in Italy at Atalanta, scoring nine in 29 Serie A matches in Bergamo.

Osimhen destined for England

Osimhen will play in the Premier League next season, according to Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong.

“I know he’s a Chelsea fan, but I also know he’s had talks with all the top teams. It’s up to him what he chooses. He will fit into every team,” Troost-Ekong told TalkSport.

“I know Liverpool have spoken about getting a new striker next season. We will see.

“I’m also reading, like everyone else is, that he has a clause this summer. When he went to Galatasaray I think it worked out amazingly for him.

“I couldn’t see him playing there for another season, or anywhere else but the Premier League next season.”
